ABOUT
A Legacy Built with Expertise
Established in 2010, Prima Park is a family-run thoroughbred farm specialising in top quality horse agistment and sales preparation.
Kelly Van Dyk, a third-generation horsewoman, manages the day-to-day running of Prima Park.
Rooted in Generations:
The Van Dyk Heritage
The Van Dyk's association with thoroughbreds began with Louise's father, who moved from Wanganui to Putaruru in 1982 establishing the family farm which would eventually become Prima Park.
In late 2016, the need for expansion saw the Van Dyk family relocate to Mystery Creek, on the outskirts of Cambridge. It is here, on the banks of the Waikato river, that they developed an impressive purpose built equine facility on 32 acres of free-draining sandy loam soil.
After quickly outgrowing their property at Mystery Creek, Prima Park relocated to Matamata in 2021, purchasing an impressive 50 acre property. The van Dyk's will continue to develop there new farm where they will offer horses and clients the very best facilities on offer.
"Louise and Kelly's equine expertise is superbly complemented by Leighton's business proficiency and pedigree knowledge."
An accomplished equestrian, Louise was a successful event rider who has also produced and sold several off the track thoroughbreds to top-level competitors. Louise has a passion for equine nutrition which is an integral part of the Prima Park operation. She develops individual feeding programs for each horse, using a combination of Pryde's EasiFeeds with various supplements to ensure each horse is kept in optimal condition.
Kelly followed her mother's footsteps into the sporthorse world, representing New Zealand internationally in Dressage on several occasions and winning dual Young Rider titles at the New Zealand Horse of the Year show. Now retired from competition, Kelly's sole focus is on Prima Park. Kelly gained invaluable thoroughbred experience working for champion New Zealand trainer Roger James during her school holidays before learning the bloodstock at one of New Zealand's leading stud farms Waikato Stud.
Louise and Kelly's equine expertise is superbly complemented by Leighton's business proficiency and pedigree knowledge. Following a successful career in retail Leighton sold his interests in the family business, Van Dyk's Furniture, to focus on Prima Park in 2009. While he's less hands on with the horses, he's been an avid follower of racing from a young age and he has a keen interest in pedigree analysis.
With the Van Dyk's combined skills and enthusiasm, it's no surprise that Prima Park has quickly become a recognizable name in the Australasian bloodstock scene. It's a proven formula with graduates of the farm already including Singapore Horse of the Year Debt Collector and the promising three-time Hong Kong winner Beat The Clock.
